CIM’s strategic activities in the Russian Federation take place mainly in the development policy priority areas agreed between Germany and the Russian Federation. These areas are:

• economic promotion and in particular promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises and vocational training
• promotion of the agriculture sector
• administrative reform.

In response to the request of partners with special development policy relevance, CIM has also been active in strengthening civil society and democracy in the Russian Federation. Integrated experts, for example, support the work of non-governmental organisations. In filling these positions, CIM makes use of its scope to act outside development policy priority areas.

Since the Russian Federation has already made tangible progress in its transition, in the future CIM will promote only especially important positions and will rely more on cooperation with other partners in financing staff assignments
