Peru

CIM’s strategic activities in Peru take place mainly in the development policy priority areas agreed between Peru and Germany. These areas are:

  • democracy, civil society and public administration
  • water supply and sanitation
  • sustainable rural development, conservation and sustainable management of natural resources.

Peru is a priority partner country of German Development Cooperation in Latin America. Intensification of cooperation in all priority areas is planned, but especially in the strengthening and socio-political integration of the civil society and in fostering technical expertise at decentralised levels, for example, in municipal associations.

CIM is also working in Peru on the following cross-cutting themes of German Development Cooperation:

  • gender
  • poverty reduction
  • environmental protection.

In response to the request of partners with special development policy relevance, CIM experts in Peru are also working to establish renewable energies and nature conservation. Here CIM makes use of its scope to act outside development policy priority areas.

GIZ supports CIM in the implementation of its programmes on the ground and cooperates closely with CIM experts.

With the Returning Experts Programme, CIM also supports Peruvian experts returning to Peru after studying, undertaking vocational training or working in Germany. They work primarily as engineers in the private sector or as university lecturers.
