The Arab and Islamic countries of North Africa and the Near East are experiencing considerable social tension in the course of modernisation. The Euro-Mediterranean Free Trade Zone planned for 2010 is spurring the Mediterranean coastal countries to press ahead with economic, social and political reform processes. For the region’s fast-growing population with its high proportion of unemployed youth, this opens up solid prospects for the future.
The most important activity areas for CIM in the Maghreb and Near and Middle East are:
- private sector promotion, development of the market system, vocational training
