FAQ
The selection processCIM invites promising candidates to a personal interview. After this pre-selection process, we propose suitable applicants to the employer, who then decides on the basis of the application documents and CIM’s recommendation whether or not to hire the candidate.Taking leave of absence from your current jobCIM welcomes applications from interested candidates in permanent positions who would like to take leave of absence for an assignment abroad. The decision about whether or not to grant leave must remain with your current employer, however.Application formsYou are kindly asked to apply via the online application portal to submit an application for a specific position or a general speculative application. Please use only this procedure for your application. You will be asked for all of the data that are necessary about yourself and your qualifications. You also have the possibility of attaching documents for forwarding to CIM.Application PortalTechnical requirements Please note the following technical requirements for using for using the job market and online application procedure:
"Vacancy expired" If you receive this message after selecting a job offer, please deactivate Pop-up blockers and enable Cookies.
Login Once you have registered, you will receive your password via email. If you copy your password from the email, make sure you don't copy any additional spaces. After the first registration you are asked to change your password. The password must be at least 6 characters long, and must contain at least one number.
Email has not arrived Some email providers classify our job market emails as spam. Please check your email spam folder regularly to ensure you are always have up-to-date information on your applications.
Forgotten your password Click on “Request new password” in the “Registered applicants” area of the screen, and enter the email address with which you registered. Within a few minutes you will receive a new password, which you must change for security reasons next time you log on.
Email address already registered If this message appears, it means you have already registered with us using this email address. In this case, please go to the login area, click on “Request new password”, and request a password using your email address.
Uploading application documents In addition to the fully completed online application form, we always require a covering letter, an up-to-date curriculum vitae, which you should upload via the application form as attachments. You must observe the following restrictions when uploading documents: + You can only upload a total of 10 MB per application + Only the following file types are supported: + We are unable to process zip files and any file formats not listed above + The following restrictions on file sizes must be observed: Applications that have been saved but not sent can be found on the status page under “Applications in progress”. For security reasons, any documents that have already been uploaded for applications in progress must be uploaded again before the application is sent. Applications that have been saved and sent can be found on the status page under “Applications sent”. In addition you will receive a confimation-message on your email-address.
Online application form Take sufficient of time to fill in the online application form, and please answer all the questions fully and accurately. Have all the necessary documents ready (e.g. up-to-date CV and covering letter). Please also note the mandatory fields, which are indicated by an asterisk (*).Until you send it (by clicking on the “Confirm and send”-button), it cannot be included in the job selection process.
Sent applications Once an application has been sent, you cannot subsequently change it. Please also note that once documents have been sent, they can no longer be corrected.
Interrupting an application and continuing at a later date You can quit your application account at any time (by clicking on the “Confirm and close”-button), and continue filling it in at a later date. The data you have saved so far can be accessed on the status page under “Applications in progress”. The data in your application account can only be seen by you. Neither this data nor the uploaded documents are transmitted to CIM until you have sent off your application.
Receipt confirmation After you have sent off your application, a confirmation will be sent to the email address you specified. This confirmation is automatically generated, and will reach you in only a few minutes. This indicates that your application has entered our application management system. If no email appears in your inbox, please check your spam inbox and also make sure you actually sent your application (by clicking the “Confirm and send”-button).
Job Minder You can use the Job Minder function to store details of individual advertisements on the “Sent applications” page, and view them again even after the end of the publication period. This gives you direct access at any time to advertisements that are of interest to you. Once publishing for applications has passed, you will be informed that applications are no longer possible.
Contact with applicants We will make contact with you as quickly as possible if you have applied for a specific post. We may contact you by phone or by email. So please try to avoid contacting us before we have done so. If you applied on your own initiative, we will establish active contact with you when we need to fill a specific post for which the job profile meets your qualifications. Please make shure that you filled in datas on "qualifactions" of the application form.
Data protection Data protection is a high priority at CIM. This applies particularly to the personal data of applicants and prospective employees. We do, of course, ensure that your data is transmitted securely as well as keyed and that data protection regulations are adhered to. In consultation with our data protection officer, we have implemented an authorization and data protection strategy. This means that only authorized people can access your data, and it is treated as strictly confidential. Find more information on data protection at the registration site.
Deleting your account You can delete your profile and account via the menu path “Registered applicants” – “Log-in data” using the “Delete data” link.

Deadline for applicationsYou can apply for a vacant position for as long as it is posted on our Internet pages. There are no deadlines for applications. When a sufficient number of appropriate candidates have applied for a position, we remove it from our listings.General applicationsWe are happy to consider speculative applications from suitable candidates. You will find the link to the online procedure in the right-hand navigation list. Please register and answer the series of questions in order to give us an idea of your career so far and your qualifications. More promising of success, however, are applications for specific positions that fit your particular profile. So please visit our job placement market regularly and make use of our online application portal.Taking the family alongYou may take your family along if local conditions permit. CIM pays a subsidy for school fees that may be necessary for school-age children.InternshipsCIM does not have an internship programme of its own. However, at the website of the working group “Lernen und Helfen in Übersee” (a network for recruitment for development cooperation, etc.) you will find a number of institutions that offer internships in development cooperation. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH – German Technical Cooperation – has its own programme for the coming generation of development workers.Social securityCIM provides you with comprehensive advice and counselling concerning your social security situation during your assignment abroad. CIM provides subsidies for pensions, health insurance, insurance for reinstatement of health coverage, and nursing insurance.AccommodationYou will want to look for accommodation that suits your personal needs. Your employer will usually help you find what you want.Vacation and working hoursYour vacation time and working hours will conform to the standard in the partner country and will be defined in your contract. Minimum and maximum limits are specified, however, in accordance with German standards.Early retirees and pensionersThe Senior Experts Service offers retired managers and technical experts (early retirees or pensioners) the possibility of accepting an assignment abroad as part of German Development Cooperation. |
